Project Overview

My team [3] was provided with a challenge of creating a loyalty program for craft-brew enthusiasts while helping them find small-batch beers at restaurants, bars, and events.

The Solution

An application that uses gamification, GPS, and detailed small-batch beer info to assist beer enthusiasts and active party-goers in finding restaurants and events that serve special brews while rewarding them for locating places that serve these special beers. My role was building a working prototype in Axure so we could test user interaction.

Competitive Analysis

Researching direct competitors highlighted different ways that companies displayed particular information. We also got a glance at how consumers used particular apps to find niche products while also observing how the community interacted with that product.

Content Strategy: Wireframes

We created multiple user flows, scenarios and wireframes and needed to determine the easiest and fastest way for consumers to get to their desired destination, at the same time providing incentives and rewarding them for engaging with Sweetwater.

User Insights: Turning Paint Points Into Solutions

Surveys and user testing highlighted pain points along with designs/information architecture that could be streamlined in our user flows. Everyone processes information differently and I find it interesting to record how ideas can be improved to enhance the overall interaction with a product or service.

User Testing: Axure Prototype

“If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.”
— Albert Einstein, Theoretical Physicist

I designed the first prototype in Axure and we recorded the test results: we noticed that most of the test participants had questions about how users would safely arrive from one location to the next. We also needed to include an age restriction notification to make sure drinkers of age were claiming the rewards. Meaningful rewards were also very important, the rewards along with new beer suggestions had to be introduced at the right time in the user journey.
